MMC alum Doug Makuta ’12 and his band, MAKUTA, will be donating proceeds from their upcoming NYC concert back to Marymount Manhattan College, helping to educate the next generation of performers and entrepreneurs. You can check out their funky-fresh style February 28 at the Mercury Lounge.

This 21+ only concert is $8 (tickets available here). More info about the concert is available on Makuta’s website and Facebook page.

Studying Business at Marymount Manhattan College, Doug was able to get hands-on experience and education on how to succeed in the professional world. He says, “The faculty I studied with, specifically Dr. Leslie Levin, really helped me to grasp the importance of marketing, promotion, and out-of-the-box business tactics.”

While at MMC, Makuta had an internship with Legacy Records, an adjunct of Sony. Establishing this connection was just a stepping stone in the music industry. Since graduating, MAKUTA released an EP entitled “The Kingbird Sessions” at the end of 2014. The group also signed with Timbaland’s production company, Bluestone.

You can check out some of MAKUTA’s music in the video below, and hear more on February 28. Thanks Doug for supporting MMC with this concert—we’re so proud!
